Laundering according to your baby’s needs
Now that you are going to have a baby, you must have thought of all sorts of things that you need to do and all the preparations that you need to finish before he arrives. While you might think you have taken care of everything, here is one important thing that you might not have considered and that is laundry.
Well, I know what you are thinking just now; what does laundry have to do with my baby? In fact, it has a lot to do with your baby. You will need to modify your laundering habits when your baby comes.
First, you will have to forget to wash clothes simply because of their smell. The reason is that your baby will burp up things that you might never have thought of and you will have sky high piles of laundry.
Besides that, you will have to take extra care of your baby’s sensitive skin. You cannot wash up your baby’s laundry with yours. You will have to make discretion here and use soft, perfume free detergents, especially made for babies, for your child.
In case your baby develops some kind of an allergy to any specific brand then you can first find one that will work fine for your child’s skin and then stick with that brand. While this might take some trial and error, as soon as you find the right one, your baby will be at ease.
If you use cloth diapers for your baby, then wash them separately. The reason is that they will be much more soiled compared to the other clothing of your baby. Hence, you will also need to wash them twice; one time in bleach and double rinse them and then, the second time using only vinegar and then one more rinse.
The reason they are so important is that your baby uses them most often and hence, they are more worn out. Besides that and more importantly, they are the closest to your baby’s skin. Hence, you have to ensure that they are free from any allergens.
One more thing, when you buy new clothes for your baby, (which you will owing to the fast rate at which your baby will grow!) you will have to first wash them before you use them. This is true for all clothing including outerwear, accessories, as well as undershirts, onesies and socks.
You will understand which laundering routine you need to follow within the first few months. Then you can keep your eyes open for any possible allergies or rashes to your baby.
